EPISODE 11: BULLETPROOF SOUL

Those who know me well know that I’m a huge fan of Sade – the band, the music, the singer. A set of Sade tracks was included in the music programming of every portion of my wedding – cocktails, our first dance, dinner music & throughout the night. After all, in my very vivid imagination she is an old flame – a figment of the endless love affair that we have in my dreams. She represents beauty in every way – in her music, in her strength, in her voice & in her soul. Truthfully, Sade’s music isn’t for everyone. It’s really an acquired taste – mellow, atmospheric & sleepy to some. Nonetheless, no one who has been following soul music in the last 25 years can deny that Sade’s songs have been responsible for more than a few conceptions in this lifetime (and from seeing so many twenty-somethings in the crowd at her last concert, I don’t think there’s any need to argue my point). As I had just mentioned, I had the privilege to sit on the floor for her latest Toronto performance. Sade had returned to T.O. after 10 long years since her “Lovers Live” Tour. Safe to say, she sang all her hits as well as my faves from her current album. As expected, the crowd went nuts to every old school hit that she sang (and flawlessly might I add). Oh, and she looked dope too – like she was still 25! Check out some of these pics I took from the concert:

So without further adieu, here’s a random thought I had over the weekend that I ended up turning into my latest (and greatest) mixtape. I call it “Bulletproof Soul” as it is a blend of my favourite Sade songs – hopefully some of yours too. It’s clearly not for all of my followers so at the very least, I hope I can educate some of you on some excellent & underrated soul music (in terms of her album cuts) from back when I was a little boy. So thank you Sade for inspiring me to do this. My wife thanks you too. She’s got this mix on repeat…… And for my small but loyal band of fans, friends, followers & music lovers – take this one in with an open mind & an open heart. You’ll hear some tracks that I’ve used in previous mixtapes, but those tracks that have been used before you’ll notice that in this mix I gave them more love and attention. So sit back. Relax. Or get close to someone. Relax. Dance. Get close. Keep dancing. Get closer. Dance some more. Fall in love again. Let me help you with that……
